Hack of the day · Visual art

Flip your canvas every 10 minutes

  • Music · Production 2 min

High-pass everything that is not bass or kick

Roll off below 80 to 100 Hz on guitars, vocals, synths and pads. Your low end clears up and the mix gets louder without touching a fader.

  • Music · Songwriting 3 min

    Write the chorus first

Your hook is the song. Nail the chorus melody and lyric, then write verses that lead to it.

  • Music · Mixing 1 min

    Mix at a low volume

Quiet levels force the important parts to stand out. If the vocal and kick still read at whisper volume, the balance is right.

  • Music · Production 2 min

Finish a loop in 30 minutes

Set a timer. Drums, bass, one melody, done. Constraints beat endless tweaking and fill your folder with finished ideas.

  • Music · Vocals 2 min

Warm up with a lip trill, not a scale

Lip trills ease the voice into range without strain. Two minutes before recording saves your voice and your takes.

  • Music · Career 2 min

Post 15 seconds of your hook, not the whole song

Short clips of the catchiest part travel on TikTok and Reels. Send people to the full track from there.

  • Visual art · Drawing 1 min

Flip your canvas every 10 minutes

Mirror your drawing to spot wonky proportions your eyes have gone blind to. It takes one click or one hand mirror.

  • Visual art · Painting 3 min

Tone your canvas before you start

Wash a thin layer of warm grey or burnt sienna over white. Mid-tones are easier to judge, and highlights pop.

  • Visual art · Digital 2 min

Clip a layer for fearless shading

Put shading on a clipping layer above your flat colours. Paint wild and never leave the lines.

A feed that never goes stale

  1. 01

    The trend desk scans

An automated agent sweeps public posts for music, art, photography, dance, craft and film, all day, every day. A fresh scan runs every 10 seconds.

  2. 02

The best rises to the Reel

New work is filtered, de-duplicated and played newest first, with credit and a link to the artist. New drops are flagged as they land.

  3. 03

    You learn, post and grow

Save hacks, take the daily challenge in your craft, then share your own work so others find you. We remember your craft and streak.

    Questions

    Is ArtistSupport free?

Joining is free, and so are the Reel, the daily challenge, the Chord lab and the Palette spinner. Everything on the site is open to everyone.

    Is this only for musicians?

No. Music leads the page, but the Reel, hacks, challenges and community cover visual art, photography, dance, craft and making, and film and animation too.

Where does the live feed come from?

Our trend desk pulls newly posted public work from the web and refreshes every 10 seconds. Every post shows who made it and links straight to the original. If something does not belong there, anyone can report it and the community takes it down.

Can I get my own work featured?

Yes. Post on the community board with a link to your work. It goes live straight away, credited to you, with a link back to your page.

    Who answers my questions?

The community does. Post a question on the board and anyone can reply with an answer. There is no inbox to wait on and nothing to approve.

How is the board kept friendly?

Everyone can report a post or reply. Three reports from different people take it down automatically.
